Prescriptions & Info on my Doctors

I'll need to take Maxidex (anti-inflammatory), Vigamox (antibiotic) and Lubricant Eye Drops (OTC eye lubrication to use as much as needed) as prescribed by Nick Nianiaris - M.D., Medical Doctor. Dr. Nianiaris has personally performed over 20,000 laser procedures. He currently is one of a handful of surgeons around the world certified to use the INTRALASE femtosecond laser to make Lasik flaps. Dr. Nianiaris is the current Chief of Ophthalmology at Toronto East General Hospital where he sits on several committees and performs his cataract surgeries.

The natural healers I'm taking right now are Arnica (for general pain/infammation and bleeding) and Euphrasia ("Eye Bright" specific for eye inflammation/irritations and healing) prescribed by my N.D., Naturopathic Doctor, Jennifer Tanner.

My mappings appointment

It's my birthday and I got my mappings done today. TLC took several tests, measuring thickness of corneal skin, pupil size, taking 200+ different prescriptions throughout my eye. At the end, my eyes were dilated. I wasn't really thinking what that meant when I looked at myself in the mirror in the washroom. I nearly scared myself, my pupils were like saucers! Freaky. I was watching what was being done on the computer and I had to take my glasses off to read. No wonder I could see so clearly, my pupils were huge! It was really bizarre. I took the subway to work; I couldn't focus on the monitor whatsoever with or without glasses. To read what I typed, I had to stick my head right up to the screen. After a couple hours I could look at the screen wearing glasses but my eyes still felt foggy and it took all day for the pupil size to return to normal. Just 3 more days of wearing these ugly glasses. I had taken out my contacts on the Saturday before my consultation, then when I booked the appointment today I had to have had them out for 2 full weeks so I never ended up putting my contacts back in. Three years ago, they only requested 3 days but they found that that wasn't enough time for the cornea to return to its normal shape and the mappings were picking that up. I'm glad I waited the 3 years; they even cut the flap using Intralase LASIK. The important thing about that is that it's bladeless. :)

Consultation at TLC Laser Eye Centers

I had my consultation at TLC Monday at 7 a.m., December 4, 2006. Just like before, I'm a prime candidate. My eyes are both -2.25. They used to be -2.75 and -2.50 but since becoming vegetarian and eating a lot of carrots, they improved within a year of test results. But it's not like having perfect vision.

TLC offered me a $1000 discount if I get the surgery done before the end of the year. I couldn't refuse, so I booked the "mappings" appointment for Monday, at 7:45 a.m., December 18th (my 37th birthday!) and the surgery for 10:45 a.m. Thursday, December 21st. I have a 1-day follow-up appointment on Friday, December 22nd at 11:15 a.m. I will also have to have a 1-week, 1-month, 3-month, 6-month, 1-year and annual check-ups after that to qualify for the Lifetime Guarantee. I'm both nervous and excited...
